The Lovers’ Terrace
The Lovers’ Terrace, an integral part of the historical building of the Teatro Stabile di Verona, is located in Via Cappello 23 in Verona.
To get there you must enter the Courtyard of Juliet’s House, with the legendary bronze statue of the young Capuleti, and go up the stairs, decorated with graffiti and love dedications by lovers who have visited this symbolic place.
The stairs give access to one of the most charming and magical places in the entire city of Verona: the Lovers’ Terrace, in fact, directly faces Juliet’s house and its famous Balcony, where the most famous Shakespearian dialogue takes place between Romeo and Juliet.
The Lovers’ Terrace therefore stands to become a place that symbolizes love, able to recreate the evocative atmosphere of the story of two unfortunate, young “star-cross’d” Veronese lovers made famous by Shakespeare’s tragedy.
Since 2008 the Lovers’ Terrace has been home to the Lovestone project.
In fact, after having been completely renovated and repaved with 60,000 5x5-cm Veronese marble tiles, it gives everyone the possibility to carve a message of love, which will remain in stone for eternity.
By making a donation, lovers, and not only, can leave their own message of love, which will be directly carved into a marble tile, that is a Lovestone, using a laser technology created specifically for this project.
The Lovers’ terrace is an integral part of the Teatro Nuovo, also with regard to cultural events. In summer it houses theatre performances, cultural meetings and exhibitions.
The admission is free. Consult the section “How to get there” to find out more.
