William Shakespeare

- Benvolio: “Forget to think of her.”

- Romeo: “Teach me how I should forget to think”.

Romeo and Juliet’s love story is perhaps the most famous one of all, known in every place and time. William Shakespeare immortalized it, staging it for the first time between 1596 and 1597. From that moment numerous works have drawn inspiration from this romantic story. The musical West Side Story, the films by Zeffirelli and Luhrmann, the music of Tchaikovsky, Prokof'ev and Dire Straits, as well as paintings by countless artists such as Hayez and Dicksee are only a few examples of how this story has by now become an integral part of our cultural heritage.
Today Shakespeare is recognized as one of the greatest playwrights in history. The English author’s genius is his universality, with timeless works such as Hamlet, Othello and Romeo and Juliet.

“Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow”.
